Five Bridges and Nine Mile River Update
On March 23, I had the opportunity to attend the Five Bridges Heritage Trust AGM (and I am now a card carrying member!), and there were many great presentations to share. Peter Lund gave a report on Nine Mile River water study, and reported no concerning contamination or pollution issues. “Studying the surface water quality tells us about the overall health of the river, the watershed, and the land around it. We always want to make sure the wilderness area and our streams and lakes are protected and monitored regularly. That way, contamination or problems can be assessed before danger to wildlife and fish habitat occur,” says Lund.

A great presentation regarding the Nine Mile Watershed study was delivered by HRM as well. Although the steering committee has already been selected, you are still able to have your say. Take the HRM survey here.
Mike Marriott from SMATVA also gave an update on ATV trail maintenance. He had some good news to share regarding trails in the Prospect Communities as well. Thanks to Mike for letting me video a quick recap of the work to date, and the plans for 2025. The video is here.

Lastly, Dusan Soudek, Chair, Portage Committee, from Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia gave an update water trail maintenance. Trail maintenance will continue for the Terence Bay Wilderness Area, Rogues Roost Wilderness Area, and Five Bridges Lakes Wilderness area. The full maintenance report from CKNS is here.
