Community Meeting - East and West Dover
Following a home invasion in the community of West Dover (RCMP Report here), I asked HRD RCMP to come to the community to speak to the status of the case, discuss opportunities to enhance safety, and answer questions from the community. RCMP delivered an excellent presentation to a packed house at the East Dover Community Centre.

For my part, the overarching message I heard for all of District 13 is that community safety begins in community. It starts with us. No matter how many RCMP officers patrol our roads and neighborhoods, they will never be everywhere all the time. We need to be doing our part to inform them of unsafe driving, suspicious or dangerous behavior, or drugs. Call in crime-related events as you see them, or if you know of criminal activity in the community. We get a better police presence in our community simply by calling. The calls enables the RCMP to respond immediately, and the volume of calls enables them to aggregate that data to understand of the overall safety of our community.
Their last message was tips, all tips, are welcome and encouraged. Anything you can share makes a difference, even if you can't provide enough information to allow them to catch them in the act, or if the event happened in the past. As one officer at the event said, "A criminal needs to get lucky every time. We only need to get lucky once."
There are several ways to get in touch with the Halifax Regional Detachment of the RCMP. For emergencies, including drunk or dangerous driving, call 911. For non-emergencies, call (902) 490-5020. If you wish to remain completely anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or use their secure webform here. If your tip results in an arrest or return of stolen property, you can receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
Lastly, get in touch with me if you like. I always want to know of anything that concerns you, and I will gladly chat about your issues. The safety of District 13 is of the greatest importance, and I am happy to play any part I can to make that happen for us all.
